Dr. Guido Filler

Dr. Guido Filler is a Professor of Paediatrics and Medicine at Western University and a pediatric nephrologist at the Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre. Trained in Germany and at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, he holds a PhD in clinical pharmacology from Humboldt University, Berlin. Over more than three decades, he has established an international reputation in pediatric kidney disease, with a strong focus on biomarker development, pharmacokinetics, and translational research.
Dr. Filler is widely recognized for his work on cystatin C as a marker of kidney function and for leading clinical trials that shaped immunosuppressive strategies in pediatric kidney transplantation. His research has expanded into rare metabolic and bone diseases, with a particular interest in the kidney–bone axis and disorders such as X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH). He has contributed to advancing understanding of phosphate metabolism, treatment response to burosumab, and renal complications such as nephrocalcinosis.
With over 400 peer-reviewed publications and over 14,000 citations, Dr. Filler is also deeply committed to mentorship and global capacity building. He currently co-chairs the International Pediatric Nephrology Association’s mentoring program and actively collaborates on international initiatives to improve outcomes in children with rare diseases.
